Who/how/when did s/he came up with the idea for the BTO?

The Boston Typewriter Orchestra was founded on October 20th 2004 by Tim Devin. His girlfriend surprised him one night at a bar with the gift of a children's typewriter. Soon he was typing along to the rhythm of the music being played there. Eventually it annoyed the waitress who asked him to stop when he replied "It's OK ma'am, I'm the conductor for the Boston Typewriter Orchestra". Thinking there was something to that, he gathered a bunch of people to pound on typewriters. We began modestly, playing mostly house parties and art galleries.

Where have you appeared?

Our first noteworthy performance was at an arts festival in Somerville MA called Art Beat back in 2006. Our appearance on the bill caught the attention of a Boston Globe reporter who wrote us up the day before the show. Since then, we've been invited to play gigs and venues of all shapes and sizes, from smaller art galleries to opening for Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls. We've also appeared on NBC's Today Show, Fox & Friends, NPR and other localized media.

Who is your audience, generally?

Our appeal seems to cover a broad range of characters. Older fans regard us nostalgically while younger fans appreciate the .

Where are looking to perform?

BTO is looking to play more and interesting gigs in 2010, new venues, festivals, anywhere we can find an appreciative audience.
